It is often not believed that cancer treatment can affect a man’s sexual life. Cancer treatment can cause physical changes that make having sex more difficult. Cancer treatment which interferes with the normal balance can lessen desire. It is seen that operations done to treat cancer damages some nerves The most common sexual problems faced after cancer are lack of desire for sex for both men and women, erection dysfunction for men and vaginal dryness and pain during intercourse for women. There are many causes for lack of desire like hormonal changes related to cancer treatment, fatigue, mild depression, feeling less attractive and relationship conflict are the worst effect that are caused by the stress of cancer.
Sometimes certain medications produce side effects which interfere with sexuality. When chemotherapy is given people often notice a decrease in the sexual desire and for men they are not able to get an erection. Medications for anxiety, nausea, sleep, pain or seizures sometimes causes decrease in the libido and erectile dysfunction. So it is better to consult doctor and take his suggestions for improving sexual functioning.
